These strops are currently under construction and will be shipped within 3-4 business days of ordering. 

This is a large 250mm x 60mm x 20mm single sided leather bench strop made from European Beech and vegetable tanned premium bovine leather. The beech is sealed with shellac and a Stroppy Stuff logo is branded into the back. 

The leather is trimmed all the way flush to the wood backing, unlike most strops where they purposefully undersized the leather. The edges of the leather are carefully beveled to stop the leather from deforming or fraying, however the beveling is very slight, to allow you to strop all the way up to a plunge line. 

This leather is vegetable tanned bovine. It's very high quality leather and I hand pick pieces to ensure they're as free of defects as possible for an organic material. There will however be some minor differences in the leather such as small marks or creases.

Grain side vs Flesh side.

The grain side of the leather has a smooth, polished texture, while the flesh side has a more textured, fibrous finish, providing slightly different stropping experiences for your tools.

If you're using a bar compound like chromium oxide, the flesh side is generally better, otherwise it’s purely a matter of personal preference

Finish Options: Shellac vs. Raw Beech

The only difference between these versions is the treatment of the wooden base. The French-polished shellac finish seals the steamed beech, imparting a warm amber tone and a traditional appearance while offering light surface protection. The raw steamed beech option is supplied untreated, retaining the natural pale colour of the timber. This version may be refinished at any time with shellac, oil, or other wood finishes if desired, or left bare for a clean, natural presentation.

Stroppy Stuff honing oil is formulated to enable peak cutting performance from your sharpening stones, increase abrasive life and massively prevent loading by suspending and lifting the swarf out of the stone. If you have resin bonded or electroplated diamond stones this will take the performance of those to a whole new level. This Honing oil will also prevent corrosion of electroplated stones and rust prone steels.

Stroppy Stuff Honing oil is made from plant based chemicals, it's safe on your skin, won't dry out your hands and has a very little odor.

Most Honing oils are isoparaffinic hydrocarbon based which will dry out your hands and can be fatal if it enters your lungs.

If you use resin bonded stones this honing oil is a MUST!. It's at least twice as effective at reducing loading as simple mineral oil and orders of magnitude better than water & soap.
